When I went back to ethiopia for the first time in my life in 2001 when I was 7 years old. I really wanted to go to the place where people pay to take a shower in a nice place. So after convincing my mom for a day or two she finally took me along with my cousin. On our way there I had decided to run ahead of my mom and cousin. While passing one house this lady had two dogs a big and small one and as i ran past her house she decided to let her dogs out. When she let them out my mom tried telling me to come back to her or to stop running because she saw the dogs running at me in full speed then i see them and as soon as i see them the big one bites me on my leg and the smaller one tried to but didn't end up biting me. Then my mom ran over and started throwing rocks and stones at the big dog till it let go of my leg. Once the dogs ran away she took me to the hospital to make sure every thing was okay and make sure I was okay. She also stayed with for about 2-3 days to make sure I was okay and always made sure my bandages were clean. Though she wasn’t me every hour of those days, she tried to be with me as much as she was able to cause she had to talk with our family and do stuff with them. Most of our family ended up coming over when they heard what had happened to me and to see how me and my mom were doing. I was really fine cause my mom had taken great care of me and made sure i was always happy and made sure I knew she cared about me which I did and still do know. Then when we finally came back to America she immediately(2-3 days after we landed) took me to the hospital to make sure i wasn’t sick from that everything was fine with me.
In April 1985 or earlier my mom had finally ended her long journey to come live in America. She had to leave her mom and the rest of our family behind so she could come to America and have a better life. When she came to the U.S. after a couple years of filling out papers getting her papers and everything else that you need to do if you want to come to american as a U.S. citizen. WHen she arrived in AMerica she lived with her older brother,Abebe and his wife Tirualem, who now has his Masters in Public Administration after trying so hard to achieve it. Tirualem my mom's sister-in-law had went to mission college with my mom when they both finally arrived in America. They both were trying to achieve getting the same degree in nursing. They both ended up working together but not on the same shift. MY mom though works two jobs so that she will always have enough money to pay the bills on time and buy things for me and herself. Sometimes I know that I don't always give my mom enough credit for how hard she works to make sure me and her have more than enough all the time, but thing is I do know how hard she has worked and is still working to make sure she has everything that we'll need and sometimes more which is why I would do anything for my mom at anytime because she works so hard to push me to go above and beyond what she did in her life and thinks that I should always to achieve thins even if they are ridiculously hard. That's why I have and always will love my mom more than anything in the whole world and universe.
Your mom sounds like she is very caring and always wants you to do your best!
ReplyDeleteThe first paragraph is a good example of what I'm looking for in an anecdote: a specific time and a specific place. The second falls into the category of describing a period of time rather than an event; could you maybe show us one day during that period, perhaps when your mom made the decision to work two jobs- what was that decision making process like?
